Built for Acoustical Performance
What makes Guilford of Maine acoustic fabric ideal for sound absorbing applications? First and foremost, it’s acoustically transparent, meaning that sound pressure passes through the material with minimal resistance so that the absorbing core behind the fabric (usually fiberglass or mineral wool) can do its job.
These fabrics are tested to meet ASTM E84 Class I fire safety standards, which means they’re not only practical but also safe for use in both commercial and residential environments. They’re an excellent match for absorptive devices with a known NRC (Noise Reduction Coefficient) and won’t impede their effectiveness.
Not for Speaker Grille Cloth
While Guilford of Maine fabrics are excellent for acoustic panel fabric, they are not suitable as speaker grill cloth. They are acoustically transparent, meaning they do not block sound pressure from passing through. However, they do offer some minimal absorption, which could affect speaker performance at higher frequencies. For speaker grilles, we recommend a grille cloth designed for that purpose.

GOM Panel Fabrics are made with 100% recycled polyester, either pre- or post-consumer. (FR701 is 100% post-consumer—water and soda bottles.) FR701 Fabrics use 100% Terratex®, which designates fabrics made from 100% recycled material using increasingly sustainable manufacturing practices to produce a high-quality product that is recyclable at the end of its useful life.
Samples: Swatches, Colors & Ordering
Want to see it in person before you order? Order sample swatches of the actual fabric rather than a fabric card directly from Guilford of Maine. To use the GOM site, simply select the style (texture) preferred, then choose a fabric color and add that to the cart. GOM will ship up to 20 swatches free of charge via 2-day shipping. It’s the best way to tell exactly what the fabrics look like. Images on a screen can help us get into the ballpark, but they can vary widely (lighting, editing, camera quality, etc), so for critical aesthetic application,s seeing the actual fabric in your room is always best.
We recommend FR701 or Anchorage as they are the most popular and cost-effective options; but we can source any of the GOM styles (prices vary for other lines, contact us for a quote).

Anchorage
Most Guilford of Maine fabrics have NSF/ANSI 336 certification as Silver or above. NSF/ANSI 336 is a voluntary standard for commercial furnishings fabric that evaluates fabric over its entire lifecycle to address the environmental, economic and social aspects of fabrics for commercial furnishings. The standard was also adopted by the members of ACT (Association of Contract Textiles) as part of their Performance Guidelines.
The standard is a comprehensive assessment tool with specific measures for fabric manufacturers and their supply chain, assessing the environmental impacts of textile manufacturing based on fiber selection, safety of chemicals, water conservation, water (effluent) quality, energy usage, air quality, recycling practices, and social accountability.
