Technical Specs
Overview
The GIK Acoustics Soffit Bass Trap © is a full 17″ deep and features our patented FlexRange Technology for unmatched performance across the frequency spectrum. It has been extensively tested both in laboratories and real-world rooms, proving to be more than 50% more effective in the 40Hz to 100Hz range than our popular Tri-Trap Corner Bass Trap ©. It also controls high frequencies smoothly, offering true broadband performance from 40Hz to 5000Hz.
Its unique wedge shape and large surface area make it ideal for corner bass trap installations or anywhere in the room where space allows. The more Soffits you place in your space, the better your low end performance and frequency response will be, both audibly and via measurements and graphs.
This is not just a tool for studio bass traps or control rooms—it works beautifully in home theaters, living rooms, small rooms, and hi-fi systems where acoustic precision matters, particularly in system with large woofers & subwoofers and powerful amps to drive them. .
Studio Acoustics
At 17” thick, the Soffit Bass Trap © offers significant surface area and depth to tackle the toughest room acoustics challenges. Its versatile form allows stacking in corners or flush-mounting in ceiling-to-wall or floor-to-wall corners for full-surface absorption all the way down into lower frequencies.
This high-mass absorber is ideal for:
- Control rooms and mix positions
- High-end home theaters
- Recording studio live rooms
- Audiophile listening rooms
Whether freestanding or mounted, Soffits provide consistent, repeatable results across diverse room treatment strategies.
Placement Ideas
- Stack in corners as full-height free standing bass traps
- Line rear walls to control modal ringing, use them on the back wall in conjunction with diffusors
- Install along the front wall to improve integration with subwoofers. If you can space them out to give them a small air gap, sometimes performance is even better.
- Place on side walls or ceiling corners where bass buildup is present, to help with both bass and early reflection points.
When it comes to controlling room modes, the Soffit is a game-changer. It’s one of the few acoustic treatments that can handle the low frequencies that cause boominess, phase smear, and loss of clarity.

Core
Soffit Bass Trap thickness and Rigid fiberglass provides twice the low end absorption over similar foam-based products.
Design
Soffit Bass Traps have 3 options:
- Full Range – without a membrane, bass traps are broadband
- Range Limiter – with a membrane, bass traps absorb even lower frequencies while the membrane has less effect absorbing upper frequencies
- Scatter Plate – Optional built-in Scatter Plate for an even balance of absorption, diffusion, and scattering
Backed by research, development and testing, FlexRange Technology encompasses our proprietary bass trap design while offering customers a true choice to control the frequency range that’s absorbed.
- Full Range – The Full Range option is broadband in nature maximizing low end and upper frequencies to give a true broadband range of absorption. Full Range is an excellent option at controlling low end frequencies and is the preferred choice for most applications.
- Range Limiter – The second option has a built-in frequency Range Limiter. This option includes a membrane system which absorbs more lower bass frequencies, and less upper bass, midrange, and treble frequencies. Using the Range Limiter option ensures maximum low end absorption while retaining ideal balance of upper frequencies within your room. Ideally used to maximize deep bass performance when no upper frequency absorption is required/desired.
